How To Start a Bilingual Podcast: The Basics
The Year Was 2020: The World Was Falling Apart, So Naturally, I Started a Podcast!
They say desperate times call for desperate measures! And, as I wrote that sentence the voice inside me screamed “hey! I’m not desperate!” to which I retorted: “yeah uh, we kinda are, let’s look it up, shall we?” So I did. By definition, the word desperate means: “feeling, showing, or involving a hopeless sense that a situation is so bad as to be impossible to deal with,” and when I tell you that hit me like a ton of bricks - well, that’s literally what it felt like on my chest, cause you know, anxiety!
But what does that have to do with my podcast you ask? Why So Not Alone Podcast, and why now? Well - if you’ve ever had a conversation with me you’ll know that asking me even the simplest question could turn into a five hour conversation that turned into 15 different side stories (I blame the ADD & my Gemini in Mars cue eye roll) because the truth is: it’s not that simple. But what part of 2020 was? If you’re someone who found 2020 to be a walk in the park will you please hit me up and let me interview you for this podcast so that you can bless us with your secrets? Because I am barely now starting to feel a shift in the air. I do feel in my heart that everything will be okay, but there were MULTIPLE times this year where I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it - and that’s the honest truth. From losing jobs to losing friends, to being heartbroken & trying to just figure out my purpose - AGAIN - it’s been nothing short of absolutely exhausting.
So raise your hand if you were personally victimized by 2020 🙋🏻♀️
Same here sis (or brotha or whatever pronouns best suit you!) - but that’s no reason to lay down & let it dictate who you are or what you can do in this world. Think about it! We’re almost at the end of it & here you are, reading this blog, simply remembering that you are STILL HERE FOR A REASON - so why not make the best of it? Why not transmute the pain into something beautiful like the alchemist that you are? The truth is, we all have the power within us to get through anything that life throws at us, and we have the power to create beautiful things in this life. If 2020 taught me anything, it was to stop sleeping on myself & to share what i’ve learned with those around me, because in doing so, I too can heal the world just a little bit more.
How did you do it, then?
Well, I had been thinking about doing my own podcast after a series of events this year that opened my eyes even more to the harsh realities of relationship patterns I’d been repeating, coupled with the shadow work I was continuously doing to continue to heal from past traumas. As someone who studied Psychology in college & post-college on my own/in my careers, I truly believe it’s so important to be self aware enough to know what blocks you from becoming the highest version of yourself in THIS lifetime - because it IS possible. We have all been through our own experiences, and it is my belief that some of these experiences & the lessons we learned from them can be effective to share not just for healing of self, but for the healing of the entire collective.
So I asked around to those who had already started successful podcasts: Lindsay & Krista from Almost 30 & Jess Garcilazo of Trish Chat Podcast (both incredible!) and was given amazing advice on which tools to use & how easy it was to simply use the Anchor App to get started. So Not Alone is a bilingual #latinx podcast covering Healing | Self-Love | Spirituality | Self-Expression | Music & more. It will soon be streamed on YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify & perhaps other platforms once I figure it all out! I wasn’t planning to release any episodes until next year, but the unexpected death of one of my favorite DJ’s: i_o, inspired me to just start. I hope you all enjoy it! More episodes to come in 2021!
